How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on you and your situation, and what you hope to achieve through counselling. This can vary from 6 to 8 sessions and may continue as long as you would like. You may end the counselling when you are ready to, although it is always preferable not to do this abruptly, but rather work towards an agreed time for ending.

Will my sessions be in person, on the phone or online?

With the onset of the corona virus pandemic, my counselling practice moved today online (Zoom), which still proves to be both effective and user friendly. With these restrictions now lifted, I am also able and willing to see clients face to face, with Zoom still offering a good alternative. We can negotiate which method suits you best. My location is Witney, Oxfordshire.

What will happen in my initial assessment session?

When you first get in touch I will contact you to arrange our first session. This session is for us to get to know each other a little; I will ask for your details and explain how I work. In turn, you will say what you hope to achieve through counselling and decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

Am I obliged to sign up for a certain number of sessions?

No you are not. If after this first session you feel this is not right for you, then you can tell me and no further sessions will be arranged.

How will I know when I don't need any more sessions?

There is usually a sense for both the counsellor and the client when the time is right to finish. It is advisable to have at least 6 - 8 sessions but you can finish earlier if you want to, or go on for longer. It is usually mutually agreed upon by both counsellor and client.
